You will need the following to create an embedded heart design:
- Fondant, pre-made or homemade with at least 20 ounces to cover a small nine inch cake
- Gel colors
- Nesting heart cookie cutter set
- Fondant smoother
- Rolling pin
- Cornstarch
- Cutting board or flat work surface
- Edible glue
- Paintbrush
- Edible color markers
Tint your fondant in a pretty range of colors using gel colors or buy pre-colored products for this project. Make sure you have no streaks in the various shades and the fondant is supple and soft by kneading it on your work surface.Wrap each ball up tightly in plastic wrap until you need to use it. Your finished cake should also be ready before you start cutting out hearts. It should be covered smoothly with a thin layer of fondant.
