Both my sons have January birthdays really close after Christmas which means I did not plan this well. Not only do we have to buy gifts within a month but we have to eat two cakes within one week. This might not seem like a problem for most people but that is a lot of cake! One of the saving graces of this situation is that the boys like very different kinds of cake so we don't overload on chocolate. My youngest son Cooper likes chocolate with a twist. His favorite cookie is Oreos so this year we made an Oreo cake for his celebration.
There is no one way to make this kind of cake and a couple good ideas could include:
- A rich chocolate cake and fill it with simple creamy vanilla frosting
- A cake completely out of Oreo cookies stacked up in a cake shape and pour ganache over the stack
- A fudgey chocolate cake filled with a cookies and cream filling studded with chopped Oreos
- Top and fill a vanilla cake with chopped Oreo icing
