For those of us that live in the great white north warm scarves, mitts, hats and coats are a regular addition to our wardrobe so making a knitted fondant scarf for a friend's cake seemed like a natural extension of our daily lives. It is fun to experiment with all the various products used in cake design especially when you can duplicate so many interesting textures and items with a little practice.
As a crafty person I am always delighted when I can make perfect tiny quilts for fondant beds, piped cross stitch designs and of course fondant or butter cream knitted clothing and socks. Advanced piping, cut outs and patience can produce lovely applique designs that can grace elegant vintage wedding cakes and smocked baby shower creations. There is no limit to what you can make out of sugar so in the new year experiment with your cakes and the assortment of tools available.
