Sometimes as cake designers and teachers we get caught up in all the fabulous details and impressive design elements we can create to captivate our clients and family. We teach people how to make exquisite realistic gum paste flowers, intricate piped borders and whimsical sculpted figures and forget the basics.
What if you know how to make these wonderful things but not how to frost a cake or stack a tiered cake so it does not fall over? It is very important to start with the foundation skills before moving on to the bells and whistles so to speak. So take the time to practice baking, filling and frosting your favorite cake as well as creating everything you need for the finished design. Don't worry about having extra cakes around the house;there is always someone willing to eat it especially in my house!
